I am a senior at a 4 year university thats about to graduate in May 2012 with a BS in biology. I plan on taking the PCAT in January 2012 and applying to many schools. But before I take the pcat I want to apply to the schools that do not require it like touro ny. I have a low gpa and a lot of volunteer experience and I am currently in the process of becoming a pharm tech.

General chem1:B
General Chem2: C
Organic Chem1: D
Calculus: B

Taking this year:

Immunology, Botany, Biochemistry, Orgo2, college physics 1 and 2 along with some electives

40hrs at local hospital
100hrs local pharmacy--- I am in the process of becoming a licensed pharmacy tech in ny
Recommendation letters from a pharmacist and a physical therapist

In my personal essay this is what I pretty much wrote (I'm not done yet this is a summary of what I have so far):

For as long as I can remember I had no clue as to what I wanted to do for a living so I applied to college in hopes of finding out.During my first year I was a liberal studies major and then became a bio major my sophomore year. I became a bio major because biology was my favorite class in high school and college, I found it very interesting and enjoyed it. While I had a declared major, I still didnt know what I wanted to do so during my junior year I decided to volunteer for different things to see what fit me best. I participated in academic service learning programs and began volunteering at my local hospital and local pharmacy. From these experiences I came to realize I want to be a health care professional dedicated to serve and improve the lives of patients. Motivated primarily by my fascination in science and the desire to serve my community my ideal job down the road would be that of a Pharmacist working with Physicians, and Patients as an analyst who not only to offer alternatives that are affordable for people but also to ensure the safe use of the prescribed medications.

As dumb as it might sound this is my explanation for my grades:My gpa is what it is not because the coursework was hard for me or that I had family matters to attend to,

Even though I found those science classes interesting I did not put much effort into them because I was plain lazy mostly because I did not know where they would lead me.

I know some people in a similar situation usually have some kind of excuse like a sickness or something.

Would me telling the adcoms I had low grades because I was lazy and unprepared ruin my chances of getting in?

I have a low gpa and I am worried I will not get into the schools that do not require the pcat.... If they don't require the pcat would they not consider my application cause of my gpa?

My school does not allow retaking a class unless an F was received and I don't want to retake them at a community college after I graduate for financial reasons.

People who got into pharmacy school and pharmacists answers only please

Could you also include your grades, test scores and the school you went to?

Thank you!
